It’s been an X-cellent day on the website formerly known as Twitter for some profound MAGA stupidity and hypocrisy. Let’s jump right into it.
The March Madness Award For Mingling Stupid Politics With Sports Goes To: Michigan State Representative Matt Maddock.
Representative Maddock was an eye witness to the shocking sight of a planeload of brown people bordering buses at the airport. Naturally (being a racist), he figured they had to be some of the brown hordes of “illegal invaders.” After all, what else could they be, what with their police escort and all?
At least one person reminded Maddock that the NCAA Sweet 16 Tournament was in town and that maybe, just maybe, it was a basketball team. Maddock responded, and I quote: “Sure kommie. Good talking point.”
As Twitter’s Community Notes would later make clear, those boarding the buses were in fact the University of Gonzaga’s men’s basketball team.
The story is now spreading across national media, an embarrassment to the State of Michigan. Though, Representative Maddock seems lacking in any repentance. This is all the fault of “fake news” which you can’t trust.
The Election Denier Hypocrisy and Fraud Award Goes To: Georgia Republican Vice Chairman Brian Pritchard
Today a judge ruled that 2020 election denying Republican Party Vice Chairman Brian Pritchard voted illegally not once, not twice, not thrice, not four times, not five times, not six times, not seven times, nope not eight times, but NINE FREAKING TIMES when he voted while still on probation for . . . wait for it . . . felony check forgery. The Georgia Republican Party really knows how to pick its leaders.
Mr. Pritchard claimed that it was an innocent mistake, that he didn’t know he was still on probation when he voted. The judge didn’t buy it: "The court does not find the respondent's explanations credible or convincing. At the very least, even if the court accepts he did not know about his felony sentences, the record before this court demonstrates that he should have known."
The judge then handed down the harsh sentence of . . . a $5,000 fine, and lest I forget, a public reprimand. Ouch. Mr Prichard’s wrist is undoubtedly smarting.
Pritchard’s sentence invites comparisons to Crystal Mason of Texas who voted while on probation only once, and did so on a provisional ballot that was never counted. She was sentenced to five years in prison (currently being appealed). However, there is a big difference between her case and Pritchard’s, she is black.
The Double Fake Twitter Account Award Goes To: Whatever Laura Loomer Is
Last November Laura Loomer claimed her investigative reporting uncovered tweets from New York judge Engoron’s wife with Trump hating images. The images were of Trump in prison. It turned out the account was not of Engoron’s wife and the best theory was the account was created by Loomer herself as a frame job.
But hey, if it didn’t work before why not do it again? Yesterday MAGA Twitter exploded with Loomer’s revelation that the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan (handling Trump’s criminal trial in New York) had an account that also showed Trump behind bars. Alas, investigation revealed Merchan’s daughter actually deleted that account some time ago and that it appeared someone picked up the account’s title and used it frame the judge’s daughter. Gosh, I wonder who that “someone” could be.
